The plain answers to who you're buying from, what it costs, and what happens to your data. No small print in a smaller font.

Who provides your computer

Each computer is provided and billed by Self Host Place LLC. We set up and manage the software that runs on your machine.

Every size in the shop — Starter through Max — is ours. There is one maker today, and each listing names it. The marketplace is built so other makers can list their own computers later, under their own names and their own billing; if that happens, the listing will say so before you buy, and nothing about your existing machine changes.

The hardware itself sits in professional data centers we rent from. You are buying a managed machine from us, not a contract with the data center.

What you pay

  • The monthly price is shown on the shop page and again at checkout, before you enter a payment method.
  • Sales tax is calculated at checkout based on your billing address and shown as a separate line.
  • There is no setup fee, no bandwidth bill, and no charge for support.
  • Subscriptions renew monthly until you cancel. Cancel any time from your billing settings.
  • If we ever change the price of a plan you are on, we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect.

Refunds

If your first month isn't what you expected, email us within 14 days of that first payment and we will refund it in full — no questions, no restocking fee. Refunds go back to the card you paid with.

After that, cancelling stops the next payment rather than refunding the current one: your computer keeps running until the end of the month you have already paid for. We do not prorate partial months. If something went wrong on our side, say so and we will make it right regardless of the calendar.

Your data is yours, and you can take it

It's your server. That is the entire point of the product, and it would be an empty claim if leaving were hard. Three ways to get a full copy:

  • From the app. Social Web can export your messages, posts and photo library from your own server at any time, without asking us.
  • A full archive, on request. Email support@selfhost.place and we will produce a complete archive of your machine — its data and its configuration — as a private download link, within five business days.
  • On the way out. When you cancel, we keep a final snapshot for 30 days so a change of mind or a late export is still possible. You can request that archive during the 30 days. After it, the machine and the snapshot are destroyed and we cannot get them back.

We do not charge for any of this, and we do not require a reason.

Where we can sell

At launch we can only sell to customers with a United States billing address. Checkout collects your billing address and will decline addresses outside the US.

Nothing on this site is blocked by country — read the guide, browse the shop, talk to the assistant from anywhere. We would rather tell you plainly than let you reach a payment form that turns you away. More countries follow once the tax and support side is ready for them.

If you came from the Social Web app

The Social Web mobile app can link you here to buy a computer. That purchase is made on this website, with Self Host Place LLC, and is not an in-app purchase: the app store does not process it, and it will not appear in your app store purchase history. The price you see here is the price you pay, and your receipt comes from us by email.

We keep records of purchases that arrive from an app referral — what was bought, when, for how much, and which referral it came from — so that reporting obligations under the app stores' external-purchase programs can be met, including Google Play's external-links service-fee reporting from 1 October 2026. Those records are ordinary transaction records; see the privacy policy for what they contain and how long we hold them.

Who else is involved

Running your machine means a payment processor, a data center, a DNS provider and an email sender are each involved in a narrow way. The privacy policy lists what each one receives. None of them are advertising businesses, and none of them get the contents of your machine.

The short version

One maker, one bill, from us. The price you see is the price you pay. Your data is yours and we will hand you a copy whenever you ask. US billing addresses only, for now.

Self Host has not opened for sales yet. This page describes how things will work when it does and may change before then; the version that applies to a purchase is the one published here on the day of that purchase. Questions: support@selfhost.place.
